Scouts 10.5 - 14.5yrs

What are Scouts?

Scouts aims to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs and attitudes and be creative.  It offers them the independence to put these skills into practice at camps and even on international trips.

Scouts are encouraged to work together and take the lead on all sorts of projects, from community based work to planning games and activities for their meetings.

The Scout Troop is the fourth section in the Scout Group, above Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs. The Scout Section is for young people aged between 10½ and 14 years.  There is flexibility in the age range:  young people can join from age 10, and can move to Explorers between age 14 and 14½. It may sometimes be appropriate to extend this flexibility for young people with additional needs.

Like all our sections, Scouts is open to Girls and Boys

When do they meet?

Silver End has just the one Scout Troop, but it is very large with over 60 members!  For safeguarding purposes we do not publish the address or a map online, but we will provide details to all members or future members on where to find us. The current meeting days and times are:-

Friday 7.30pm - 9pm

What Activities do Scouts do?

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme including traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking, as well as a wider spectrum of adventurous activities, from abseiling to zorbing and gliding to go-karting. Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach

There are numerous badges and awards they can work towards and earn during their time in Scouts, and hopefully move on having achieved their Gold Chief Scouts Award.

Troop Website

The Scout Troop has it's own website full of loads of information on what they are doing and plan to do in the future along with photos and videos of past activities.  Take a look here: www.silverend-scouts.org.uk

Useful information

One of the questions we always get asked is where do you buy the uniform from?  There is a District Scout Shop based at Prances Campsite that is open Saturdays from 10am to 1pm during term time.

We have mentioned there are numerous badges, but what do Scouts have to do to earn them? Take a look here for all the requirements.

Next question is where do all these badge go?
